The 21st Century Development Matrix was developed in collaboration with AIA Minnesota and the University of Minnesota to forward the cause of equitable development in the Minneapolis-St Paul area. The research and advocacy project was developed to enhance the understanding of equity within the built environment through the organizations and companies directly contributing to its growth. Equity is a civil and human right and a collective responsibility to ensure that all of a society’s shared resources, collective wealth, private and public institutions can be accessed equally by all of its members regardless of the circumstances of their birth.

Equity requires recognizing the role of histories of inequity in shaping our society and actively addressing the ongoing effects of those legacies as well as working to dismantle barriers to opportunity, access, and inclusion moving forward.
